Another Great Product.............
In the middle of January we secured a deal with the Aurora Bearing Company of the USA. Although we have traded for many years the title of ' Preferred UK Agent ' was not agreed until recently. We look forward to many years of success selling this highly sought after, top quality product.

On the 8th of February our Sales Director and co-owner, Paul Cuthill, will reach the marvellous milestone of 50 years old. Now in his 35th year with the company, the enthusiasm and passion he had for Godiva all those years ago still remains for all to see. 35 wonderful years ago, on the 7th January 1977, the same year as our Queen's Silver Jubilee Celebrations, Godiva Bearings was formed. In that time we've seen ' boom times ' as well as World Wide recessions. But always we've stood strong.
Now a multi-branch, multi million pound company servicing most countries throughout the World, we think back with pride to those days when a company the size of ours now was just a distant dream.
Thanks to all of you who've traded with us during those years, it really has been a fantastic journey.

New Computer System…………….
To keep up with the growth we are experiencing and the targets we have set we realised our current system, which has been a great success, would need updating at best. After investigating it was identified that a complete new system would be the best way to progress and the last three months has since intensive work behind the scenes ensuring this happens very soon. But for now, many thanks to the staff who have given that ' extra ' effort, we are very grateful.
NVQ Training………………
December sees us half way through our National Vocational Qualification work and we're already seeing the benefits. All the sales guys in Dudley are now involved and this will be rolled out to Newcastle and Shepperton too. And not just in Sales, it will be of huge benefit to other departments too. Keep up the good work Guys, fantastic to see you all embracing this.

Board Changes...............
The Board of Directors have asked Tom Hamlett to assume the position of Deputy Managing Director. We are pleased to say he has accepted this, so it is effective immediately.
Tom brings youth, a different perspective and experience, and ensuring we have team members progressing through the business is vital for the long term success of the Company.
We wish Tom all success in this new role.
Tom Hamlett Celebrates 20 years with Godiva.............
Tom, who is very well known to the Bearing Trade, started way back in October 1991 with Godiva. His initial tasks were helping out in an extremely busy stores.After getting to know the products it was clear Tom wanted to move to sales and so his apprenticeship
began and the rest, as they say, is History. Tom now enjoys a seat on the Board of Directors and is very much an integral part of Godiva's exciting future.

David Harrow, MD of Godiva and Chairman of the EPTDA was guest at the recent PTDA meet in Washington DC.

Announcement....
Over the last 3 months Richie Pembleton has been actively working as an assistant to John Roberts in the Newcastle Sales department. He has taken the reigns when John has been away and contributed well to the continuing improvement of the branch. His successful probationary period is now over and we are in a position to confirm his new role as Assistant Sales Manager.
Richie will be working closely with John and the rest of the team to ensure the improvement and success within the branch continues. We wish Richie all the best in his new role.

Huge stocks continue to arrive............

Bit embarrassing this................
The Schaeffler Cup was once more contested very keenly at the prestigious and wonderful Herzogenaurach Golf Club in Germany, very close to the headquarters of Schaeffler Group.
Eleven different countries were represented, Schaeffler agents and employees alike.
Three members of the Godiva team were there and all had a day to remember.
Tom Hamlett, playing his very first competitive round of golf and also wearing brand new shoes, had what is fair to say, a very eventful time fighting his way round the 7000 yard track. A sportsman to the end, Tom was delighted to ' win ' the wooden spoon.
Ray Eccleston started well and finished well but the ten holes in between cost him dearly although he finished in a respectful position.
But the Champion once again, winning the event for the second year running, a feat never achieved before, was Paul Cuthill. An amazing start with a birdie followed by three consecutive pars got Paul underway and he was able to enjoy a very lively evening taking euro's from his new found friends from the German distribution network ;-)
We look forward to next year's event.
Welcome Back Colin Green.............
Fantastic. After more than twelve months out with illness Colin returns to the sales desk in our Newcastle branch.
It's fair to say the last year or so hasn't been the best time for Colin. However, all of us here at Godiva wish him all the very best for the future and we're glad to have him back.

Export sales force expands again.....
Our success in selling abroad continues and to go from strength to strength. So to ensure that trend continues we have increased our sales staff once more. David Harrow receives his 15 Year award
Started in May 1996 as General Manager when the company was only half its size, and only in Shepperton. With the business reaching a critical size, Paul and his brother Ian (no longer in the business) felt the need for professional managers. He spearheaded the growth of the business, the opening of Dudley and the introduction of formal contracts, policies, procedures, and advanced computer systems. In 1997 he was made a Director and in 1999 Managing Director.
In 2004 he lead the Management Buy Out (MBO) with Ray, and together they revolutionised the business, installing the 'Values', Ethical and Honest trading, big company benefits for the team, and the ploughing back of all the profits into the business to grow it for the business and the team's benefit.
Trevor Brain receives his 10 Year award
Recruited as accountant on 1st April 2001 and responsible for running a small team of 3 other people. Appointed to the Board of Directors in January 2002. “I enjoy working for Godiva, there is total involvement in making business decisions which can be adopted immediately”
Carl Robinson receives his 10 Year award
Joined Godiva in March 2001
Started the Sourcing department to increase the service levels to the Trade. He then joined the Dudley Sales Team 2-years later and then in 2011 was rewarded further and promoted to Senior Sales Executive.
He has been in the bearing trade for 23 years.
Tom Berry receives his 5 Year award
Bez, as he is known by his family, friends and colleagues, joined Godiva in September 2005 as an office junior working at the Dudley branch. He quickly moved into senior Sales and has recently taken on the joint role working within the Sourcing department and Dudley sales.
Dave Halloran receives his 5 Year award
Dave was working as an agency's staff when a great opportunity arose within Godiva to gain full time employment. Being extremely grateful ( his words ) he grabbed the chance and in the five years since starting he has moved quickly from warehouse staff to Supervisor and is now part of the Purchasing team. Dave sets himself high standards and is very conscious in his work helping Godiva to offer very high quality and service.
Matt Homer receives his 5 Year award
Matt, actually called Harry by just about everyone who knows him, started with Godiva in October 2005.
A hard working and honest man, this is the longest he's ever been employed by a company. We hope he'll be around to receive his next award from us in another five years time.

People changes drive Godiva forward again
It is with great delight we announce the following people have been promoted within Godiva Bearings:
Tom Hamlett, who joined us in July 1991 has now joined the Board of Directors.
Tom started in the warehouse and quickly learned about the product. An opportunity arose in Sales, he applied and got the job and the rest, as they say, is history. Tom has been instrumental in developing the Dudley Sales Team and he will help his successor to continue the good work.
Gary John now takes over the role of Sales Manager in Dudley. Gary has been with us since March 2000 and most recently as Assistant Sales Manager in Dudley. His attention to detail has been superb and with his previous management experience, combined with his excellent product knowledge and people skills, this will give a new dimension to the excellent Dudley Sales Team.
Taking over as Assistant Sales Manager in Godiva Bearings Dudley is Nathan Harvey.
Nathan joined us in July 1999 and he also started in the warehouse before earning promotion to sales a few years ago where his tenacity and enthusiasm has made him a top performer.
There is a lot more to learn in his new role but we know Nathan can and will succeed.

Nachi joins forces with GodivaMan
It is with great delight we can reveal GodivaMan is now the sole UK distributor for that well known and highly respected Japanese manufacturer Nachi.
Having dealt with GodivaMan for many years Nachi have decided on the single agent strategy. Knowing GodivaMan stocks in depth and admiring the ' Trade Only ' position we enjoy, Nachi's decision was totally logical.
Over the coming months the full range will be coming into our main warehouse in Dudley. With manufacturing lead times and the full extent of the numbers involved it will be impossible to have all the stock earlier.
We will offer all the trade this fantastic quality bearing, from stock, with increasing availability, and value for money.

Dudley Stores Expands Once More.........
October 12th is the starting date for our new ' Stores Supervisor ' in Dudley.
A local man, born in Dudley, Gavin Ray brings a wealth of experience with him and is ready for the challenges ahead.
Often spotted on the golf course ( out of work time ), Gavin is also keen to visit the gym whenever his home life
( wife and two young sons ) allows.
We wish Gavin the best of luck and look forward to him helping us move forward again.

Purchasing Dept expands........
September sees the announcement that Dave Halloran will be joining our Purchasing Dept.
Dave, who has been with us for six years and currently enjoys the position of Supervisor in Dudley Stores, will bring with him many attributes that will enhance the operations within Purchasing.
A local man and a very keen fisherman, Dave is enthusiastic about his new role and can't wait to start.

This month sees the start of our two new salesman. Keian Sanchez and James Reed.
A ' Pedigree ' Geordie, James spends his spare time fishing and of course watching his beloved ' Toon '.
Keen to travel to warmer climates, James hopes this move will springboard his career and enable him to achieve many of his ambitions.
Keian is another ' import ' from Yorkshire. Also a keen traveller he is often spotted on the piste dreaming of meeting his idol Eric Cantona.
We wish both of them every success for the future and look forward to them helping Newcastle grow to even greater heights.

Schaeffler Cup
July 17th was the annual Schaeffler Cup. Held at the prestigious course ' Herzogenaurach Golf Club ' this keenly contested event was eventually won by our very own Paul Cuthill. Players from all over Europe, many of whom are Schaeffler customers, take part in this and it's popularity continues to grow year on year. Another triumph for Godiva, let's hope we have many more.

Our ever expanding Export Department this month welcomes it's newest member, Rob Baker. Rob has been with us now for three months induction and is ready to take up the challenge and sell to the rest of the World. A family man with a wide range of interests ranging from motor racing to music, we wish our new man from Stourbridge every success in his new career with Godiva.

Ian Townsend receives his 25 Year award
Started with us on 1st March 1985 when we where in our ' modest ' shop in Ashford Middlesex. Has worked with us as picker / packer in the early days and then progressed to Warehouse Manager when we moved to Shepperton. In 1999 after a restructure of the company Ian experienced some time in sales and then moved to his current position in the Purchasing Dept.
Nick Martin receives his 15 Year award
Started with us in April 1995 and worked under Ian in the stores. He was then trained as a back up in our unique clean room here in Shepperton and then in 2003 he made the position his own. Nick ultrasonically cleans bearings and re-lubricates them whilst working in an environment which is over 1000 times cleaner than a hospital operating theatre.
Gary John receives his 10 Year award
Started work in sales for Godiva in February 2000. He then started our Export Dept with a colleague in Newcastle where between them they covered the rest of the World. Moved to Godiva homeland sales in 2001 leaving a foundation for the current Export manager to enjoy and was instrumental in developing our Worldwide Sourcing Dept that continues to grow year on year. Now in his current position of Assistant Manager in Dudley and has ' enjoyed working for Godiva from the start '
Nathan Harvey receives his 10 Year award
Started work with us in our Dudley stores in July 1999 and soon became a valuable member of staff. Worked his way up to Warehouse Manager where he helped us move from Unit three in Dudley to our current and much bigger location in Unit one. After a company restructure he moved to the sales office where he has established himself as a hungry and keen salesman and is very much service minded.
Still no Schaeffler Price Increases from Godiva
It's now nearly two months since Schaeffler ( INA & FAG ) put up their prices but we at Godiva maintain our commitment to the trade and are holding our prices on all Schaeffler products for the month of June. And check our list prices too !! In some cases they are much lower than those of the opposition.

NEO Synthetic Lubricants exclusively from Godiva!
Back in the 60's, even the major oil companies held the philosophy that in order to improve an oil product's performance, they needed to thicken the product.
Neo realized that what was needed was a stronger product - not necessarily a heavier product (thicker was not better)! They decided to take their existing oil and experiment with some of the additives available at that time.
To their satisfaction, they began to see improvement, strengthening their belief that thinner oils were the key. Following the introduction to the synthetic oils being experimented within the military, Neo saw a new direction in the development of synthetic oil for racing and automotive applications - thus NEO OIL was born.
Success has been a major part of NEO's history, and is certain to be a major part of its future.
The 2-cycle oil NEO developed for Mercury Marine helped bring Betty Cook her two world championships.

Big Bearings R Us! 4.5 Tonnes!!
The end of year approaches and Godiva supply the biggest bearing ever supplied, in our 32 year history - 4.5 tonnes! We also supply 9 spherical roller bearings with a 500mm bore to a major customer on budget and on time, with the hope of further orders in 2010. Engineering has suffered during 2009 but Godiva are optimistic and look forward to 2010 with great anticipation.

NMB Minebea UK Ltd. have confirmed that Godiva Bearings, an authorised distributor of Rose / NMB bearings to industry, are appointed with immediate effect as the Sole European Distributors of the ranges of rod end and spherical plain bearings with "D" Type & "E" Type liner systems supplied to the UK bearing trade and throughout Europe.
Additionally any future products manufactured by Rose / NMB with “D” Type or “E” type liner systems will only be available exclusively from Godiva.
In support of all Godiva Trade Only customers Rose / NMB have confirmed that bearings supplied by bearing trade retailers, purchased from Godiva Bearings are fully warranted by NMB Minebea UK Ltd. with full technical support available via Godiva Bearings.
NMB Minebea UK Ltd. encourages all motorsport and other users whose application requires the ultimate performance from a rod end bearing to specify the “D” Type or “E” Type liner.

AUGUST 2009Another Successful trip to China.
David Harrow has recently returned from another trip to China, having spent three months there last year.
The main purpose was to approve more factories to increase further the range of HMEC bearings available to all Godiva’s customers, especially larger bearings. An order for a bearing with a 1 metre bore diameter and weighing more than 4 tonnes was confirmed and approved, the biggest ever to be supplied by Godiva.
The philosophy behind this approach has been developed over the past 10 years after bitter experiences buying from China. Customers are assured that by buying the HMEC brand every factory has been visited on more than one occasion, that senior managers at each factory are known and are aware of Godiva’s customers demands and that Godiva local representatives maintain regular contact with every approved factory.
Particular attention is given to inspection and gauging facilities and many factories have been rejected for poor or little quality control, in China just saying you’re approved to ISO9001:2000 is not enough.
Where the steel is sourced from is another prime concern as there are some good bearing material suppliers in China but not all achieve acceptable quality levels and have been declined the opportunity to supply Godiva Bearings.
